Dominion Beach is a natural barrier that experiences wave erosion and instability. Powerful processes and climate change are speeding up coastal erosion.
The Department of Natural Resources and Renewables has started a beach nourishment pilot project at Dominion Beach Provincial Park to help secure the beach. Beach nourishment typically involves placing suitable-sized stones to allow for sand to build up and slow the movement and loss of beach. A coastal engineering firm is currently designing the pilot project and construction is anticipated to begin in the Spring.
In addition to this pilot project, improvements are planned for the lower parking lot on Seaside Drive, including the construction of new accessible washrooms, to be ready for the opening of the next park season.
