Hurricane Dorian - Park Closures
Advisory: Storm Closure and Park Assessment
Update - September 19, 2019
The department appreciates patience from our visitors as we work to remediate the damage from Hurricane Dorian. Visitor and staff safety is our top priority. As parks re-open we ask that visitors use caution and avoid areas that staff have blocked off where a safety risk is present.
Staff have been working hard to complete their assessments of our camping parks.
The following camping parks will open Friday Sept 20, 2019:
- Amherst Shore* Limited campsites available
- Cape Chignecto
- Caribou-Munroes Island - Loop A and B ONLY**
- Dollar Lake
- Ellenwood Lake
- Five Islands
- Graves Island
- Mira River
- Porters Lake
- Rissers Beach
- The Islands
- Thomas Raddall
*Amherst Shore campsites with more extensive damage will be closed for the remainder of the 2019 season: 4, 5, 9, 13, 17, 28, 30, 32, 33, 34, 37, 38.
**Loop C at Caribou-Munroes Island will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019 camping season.
Visitors with reservations will be contacted and provided a full refund.
Staff have assessed a significant number of our day-use parks. Any day-use parks that are deemed safe by staff will be opened, please contact the local Lands and Forestry Office with specific questions.
The following parks are not open to the public:
- McNabs Lawlor Islands - Opens Monday September 23, 2019
- Heather Beach - Closed indefinitely
