Construction is starting October 14 on the beach nourishment pilot project at Dominion Beach. Build Nova Scotia’s Sydney office is managing the project on behalf of the Department of Natural Resources. The project consists of adding cobble and gravel to the southeastern end of the beach. Then, monitoring will assess the effectiveness of this approach to preserve the beach and mitigate coastal erosion and breaches.
Visitors will still have access to the park from Seaside Drive. However, while the work is being done, the parking lot at 48 Lower Mitchell Avenue will be closed. There will be heavy machinery onsite. Please avoid the eastern end of the beach during construction. Work is expected to be completed by mid November.
